Summer jobs abroad

Studying or working abroad can be one of the most valuable experiences that a student can engage in. Being abroad provides an opportunity to learn about different cultures, travel, and meet new people. Although the culture shock can be tough in the beginning, especially for the inexperienced traveler, the time spent abroad is always well worth it. There are many opportunities and programs that allow students to spend their summers working in foreign countries. The easiest way to search for these programs is by looking on the Internet. You will there find programs that either offer paid jobs, volunteer work, or unpaid internships.

One of the most popular jobs for American students to have while abroad is teaching English. This is a great job because it is fun, doesn’t require prior experience, and can be done almost anywhere in the world. Taking a job teaching English is a unique experience that won’t be forgotten anytime soon. You will meet great people, come out with a feeling of accomplishment, and you can travel the world. Jobs are always available almost everywhere including Europe, South America and Africa. These jobs won’t always pay, but the experience often more than makes up for it and you may be compensated for accommodations and other necessities while abroad.

If you are not interested in teaching English, there are a number of volunteer jobs all over the world. You can help clean up beaches in Costa Rica, or build schools in Kenya. Searching online will allow you to find out about these programs and how to get involved. For college students, this can provide a great experience that is different from your run of the mill internship. Everybody says they want to do something different, why not be the person that actually does it!

Although more difficult to find, working abroad in the tourism industry is another fun and unique way to spend your summer. We don’t all have the luxury of living on a tropical paradise, but working on a beach resort in Mexico brings us just a little bit closer. Resort jobs can be found by searching online and contacting the resorts directly. Working in a country like Mexico obviously provides an amazing atmosphere, but often can be a great way to learn and improve your Spanish as well. Having days off also allows you to really take in the culture and immerse yourself wherever you are.

Cruise ships can also provide a great summer experience abroad. The cruise industry is one of the fastest growing in tourism and they are found all over the world. Working on a cruise can be exhausting, with long hours and cramped quarters, but it comes with many perks as well. You get to travel the world, see amazing places, and meet new people every day. Cruise lines often hire seasonal employees so if you look hard enough, you can find a great job perhaps on a large yacht the Mediterranean or a big cruise ship in South America.

No matter what or where you decide to work, being abroad creates memories that last a lifetime. Learning and experiencing different cultures, improving your language skills, and seeing new places are just some of the perks that come along with working abroad during the summer. You will also meet new people and make great friends. Don’t worry about missing out on something at home, there is nothing that beats being abroad and it should be an experience that everyone has.
